In Male Infertility

Considered the "king of all herbs" and still used in traditional Chinese medicine, ginseng has many properties that can improve health by acting on the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, neurological and reproductive systems.

The product is derived from roots or berries - the generic term Ginseng is used - for a large amount of plants belonging to the Arialiacee family. The qualities of ginseng are mainly due to its active ingredient (ginsenoid), but also to the presence of many vitamins, panaxans (sugars), hormonal substances and essential oils. Studies on different animal species and human research have shown a close relationship between taking ginseng, increasing libido, improving sexual performance and better quantity and mobility of sperm in the ejaculate.

Recently, a study by the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Hong Kong confirmed the qualities of ginseng by specifying how it improves certain important parameters of seminal fluid: the number of sperm and their motility.

Patients with oligoastenospermia and men with impaired fertility have shown an increase in sperm density and motility after using Panax Ginseng. The aqueous fractions and polysaccharides of this plant produced an improvement in sperm density already 60 to 120 minutes after taking.

7 Proven Health Benefits of Ginseng

In addition, a study carried out on rodents showed the activation of testicular CREM, a substance necessary for the maturation of spermatids, after taking Ginseng. The ginsenoid facilitates the capacitation of the spermatozoa and the acrosomal reaction, mechanisms necessary for fertilization, increasing the intracellular production of nitric oxide (NO).

Ginsenoids act positively on circulation, also influencing male erection; indeed, the action of Ginseng is linked to the increase in NO synthesis at the endothelial and perivascular level and to the increase in the sensitivity of muscle cells to this substance. The release of NO allows relaxation of the penile muscles, allowing blood to flow and fill the corpora cavernosa, thereby improving erection.

A study of 45 men with moderate or severe erectile dysfunction showed improved sexual performance after treatment with Korean Red Ginseng (900 mg / 3 times a day for 8 weeks).

A similar study reported an improvement in erectile function in terms of penetration and maintenance of an erection after 12w of treatment. Rodent studies have shown increased libido after treatment with Rg1 and Asian ginseng ginsenosides; the effect seems to depend on the dose. The ginsenoside Rg1 acts by increasing the level of testosterone, while the ginsenoside Rb1 increases the secretion of LH, acting directly at the level of the pituitary gland. The ginsenoside Re also increases the levels of dopamine and acetylcholine, which are involved in the mechanisms of libido.

These results suggest that ginseng acts at the level of the pituitary axis both at the hormonal and neuronal levels.

In addition, numerous studies have shown that ginseng at a dose of 500 mg / kg / day protects male sperm from insults linked to the use of certain chemotherapy drugs such as cyclophosphamide, which causes gonadal toxicity and infertility.

Rodent study shows intraperitoneal injection of Panax Ginseng (10 mg/kg) appears to protect against gamma radiation and unwanted effects of radiation therapy such as anorexia, weight loss, lethargy, and baldness.

The same type of ginseng would also protect the body from environmental toxins which can have negative effects on fertility.

The effects of ginseng are also evident in men with diabetes mellitus, who are more at risk for sexual dysfunction; studies have shown an improvement in fertility and a reduction in pathological signals at the testicular level, after taking daily ginseng extract for 90 days.

In addition, ginseng has been shown to stabilize the degeneration of pathology, reducing free glucose in the blood, weight gain, improving glycated hemoglobin levels and the response to physical activity.

Ginseng also acts on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis by balancing the release of hormones related to stress regulation and by promoting the release of endorphins, hormones that reduce the level of blood cortisol allowing relaxation.

This effect promotes improved fertility, as high stress levels have been shown to reduce reproductive capacity. Studies have shown the positive effect of ginseng on the activation of estrogen and progesterone receptors, hormones necessary for the interaction of sperm and oocytes.

Despite the many beneficial effects of ginseng, it is not recommended to abuse it.

In fact, prolonged use can create restlessness, nervousness, allergic dermatitis, low concentration and insomnia.

It is recalled that additional studies are necessary to better understand the functioning of Ginseng in the management of male infertility.

How to consume the ginseng

CHEW PIECES OF FRESH ORGANIC GINSENG ROOTS

Chewing red ginseng is the most natural way to consume red ginseng, but not necessarily the most convenient for everyone. First because you need fresh ginseng, which is not always easy to find. Then the taste can disturb, the red ginseng has a bitter taste and it can be frankly disturbing if you are not tolerant to this kind of flavor.

CONSUME GINSENG POWDER

Red ginseng or white ginseng powder is one of the most popular ways to take panax red ginseng. It is possible to make your own powder, but the easiest way is to buy a powder already prepared in pharmacies or on the internet. Here there is a risk of overdose in consumption.

SWALLOW RED GINSENG AS A TABLET OR CAPSULE

Organic ginseng in capsules and tablets has been very popular lately because it couldn't be easier to take. Just take the required dose before breakfast, swallow it with a glass of water or fruit juice and you're good to go. The advantage here is that the dosage is already done so the risk of overdose is reduced.

DRINK ORGANIC GINSENG IN THE FORM OF TEA, BEVERAGE OR CONCENTRATED SYRUP

It is possible to drink organic ginseng. Again, it's pretty simple, but it takes a little longer than if you took it as a capsule or tablet.

Red ginseng paste mixes with warm, non-boiling water or fruit juice and is easy to drink. If you drink it in water it is possible to accompany this drink with sugar or another sweetening product if you wish.

TAKE ORGANIC GINSENG BULBS

Organic ginseng ampoules rarely contain 100% organic ginseng. Ampoules often combine other natural products with health benefits such as honey or royal jelly.

As for capsules and tablets, taking a vial could not be simpler, generally once a day, taking care to read the product manual before use.
